Retrieval Action

The first thing to look for in a spinner is the retrieval action. You can tell if the spinner has good action if the blade spins immediately and with smooth action. You want a spinner that has a blade at least as long as the body of the spinner, if not longer. This is what helps create efficient spinning.

The blade should pulsate once in the water, which allows the blade to rotate very slowly around the spinner's shaft. Additionally, if the blade spins slowly, there will be less resistance in the water. This means that you will be able to fish in deeper waters as well as closer to the bottom where trout often lie.
