Line Strength

To classify fishing line, it is measured by its strength. To make this determination, manufacturers use a special test called the Brighton Strand Test, which involves taking portions of line that is straight and unknotted and then applying various levels of stress until it finally breaks. The point at which the fishing line breaks is considered the test strength or breaking strain. The discovery made by the manufacturers using this test is that for trout fishing, your best options of strength include 6, 8, 10, and 12-pound line.
