Ice Fishing Finland

The Tampere Region is in the western part of the Finnish Lake District and offers a diverse range of fishing sites to suit every taste. After all, there's no shortage of water, it covers 15% of the total area. There are 2,571 lakes of over one hectare and 20 lakes over 2000 hectares in the region. The open-water fishing season lasts from when the ice melts in early May to the end of November. The ice-fishing season lasts from December to early April.

Fishing Kyrosjarvi Finland

Lake fishing and the species

For trolling and spinning pike-perch (zander), almost all large lakes and several small and medium-sized lakes are potential sites. Lakes Rautavesi, Ruovesi, Pyhajarvi and Kyrosjarvi are examples of the best pike-perch waters. Therefore, the Tampere Region is part of the best pike-

perch area in Finland. Typical pike-perch size is 0.5-2 kg, but also whoppers from 5 to 10 kg exist.

Anglers' basic game species, pike and perch, are fish that you can go after in all waters. Lakes Ruovesi, Kyrosjarvi and Langelma-vesi, for example, are lakes for pike where you cannot fail. You can rest assured that there is a constant risk of big pike in open lake areas. Normal pike size is 0.5-3 kg, but it wouldn't be unusual for a handsome specimen of over 5 kg to take your bait!

In addition to the major water routes, many small lakes are ideal for angling and ice-fishing perch and cyprinids.

Brown trout and landlocked salmon, the red-fleshed predatory fish are eager to snatch your lure on Lakes Nasijarvi and Pyhajarvi and on many other large lakes. Asp, cyprinids that grow to be large, pull the lines of anglers especially on Lakes Kulovesi and Rautavesi.

Rapids fishing

For rapids anglers, the Tampere Region can offer some twenty interesting sites where you can be relatively sure to catch something. These sites include the Kotalan Kosket rapids in Virrat, the Vilppulankoski rapids in Vilppula and the river Aurejoki in Ikaalinen.

The rapid-flowing waters are mainly part of water routes, where fish have free access to move from lakes to rapids or from one rapids area to another. The game fish pursued are brown trout, rainbow trout, grayling, whitefish and asp. And, of course, other natural species as well.

Convenient accommodation and guided fishing trips

There are cottages and other kinds of accommodation of different standards for you to use as a base for your fishing trip and to meet your particular needs. In addition to summer, spring and autumn in particular are good seasons for fishing and cottages also have their best availability at those times.

Accommodation sites offer boats and fishing tackle, while some of them also sell fishing licences and, if necessary, they can organise a fishing guide for you. A fishing guide takes you to hot spots and reveals the secrets of fish and fishing - or at least a few of them.

Further information about the fishing grounds and services in the Tampere Region is available in the Fishing Pass booklet or: www.zanderland.fi
