FELL LAKES AND RIVERS IN NORTHWEST LAPLAND

Fell fishing in the northwest of Finland, also known as the "arm" of Finland, offers an unrivalled, unforgettable experience even for experienced anglers. Nature's forces and the rugged beauty of

Lapland is surprising at an altitude of over 400 m, surrounded by some of the largest fells in Finland and the mountains of Norway and Sweden. The area resembles that of the Kola tundra, although differences in altitude are greater here. Crystal clear fell lakes, brooks and rivers teeming with fish enable a combination of various fishing techniques.

Different activities such as whitewater rafting and snowmobiling can also be added to the programme. Some venues also have meeting facilities, thus adding new dimensions to business travel.

Fishing trips are organised in the area throughout the year: in summer there is lake and river fishing in the Finnish and Swedish fell area on the rivers Lataseno, Muonio-Torniojoki and on lake Rostojarvi. Lake fishing specialities in the Muonio area include seine fishing for whitefish on lake Jerisjarvi and at the beginning of September, net fishing for ven-dace. In winter as soon as the spring sun starts to appear, ice fishing trips are made to the best arctic char lakes in the Kilpisjarvi fell area. Weather permitting, we also arrange sea fishing trips throughout the year on the Arctic Ocean at Skibotn.

Fishing techniques

Fell fishing is extremely diverse and there are opportunities to get in some quality fly-fishing, casting-based fishing and, on some lakes, even some trolling. An autumn speciality is torch fishing and in winter we fish through a hole in the ice. Class 3-5 fly equipment and floating line are ideal. It pays to make leaders longer than usual. Small spinners and wobblers are also among the most certain lures for spinning. Ultra small jigs also work.

Tackle and boats with equipment

The price includes normal fishing tackle and boats. Anglers bring any special tackle themselves. The best lures for catching grayling and whitefish are sinking flies, nymphs and larva tied to a number 16-12 hook. Floating or intermediate line will also do. Casting lengths range from just a few metres to 20 m. Waders are almost a necessity.

Accommodation

In the fells accommodation is in wilderness cabins or tents. At Kilpisjarvi, holiday cottage and hotel accommodation is also possible.
